Tis the Season

It's the season of giving throughout most of North America. While you are frantically running around trying to please all the loved ones on your list with the latest and greatest gift I beg you to stop and take a moment to think of those that don't have the basic necessities of life. Check out, my friend, The Hippy Goodwife's blog and jump in on the challenge started by Big Alice. They are asking that you would give up that red cup from Starbucks, a skien of yarn, a scrapbook supply, that trash mag from the checkout stand or whatever your vice is and make a donation to the food bank. If you aren't familiar with the food bank in your area you can check out Second Harvest or in Canada, please go to Canadian Association of Food Banks to find out how to donate.


The Hero left bright and early this morning with Kodiak, Iceman and Turtle in tow. Today is our community's drive for the Christmas Elves program. They will be going around town collecting donations of food and toys for those in need in our community. La Diva and I will be involved in the packing of hampers at a later date. It only takes a small amount of time to make a huge difference in the life of someone in your community. Get out there and do your part!

It is also the season for reflection and this year we are starting our own tradition of observing the Advent season in our home. I went out and purchased 3 purple candles and 1 rose candle. I already have a white candle. We put them on a decorative plate and later I will get some greenery to stuff amongst the pillars. I'm hoping that our family will be able to take a moment daily, together, to reflect on the reason that we celebrate Christmas. Following the Star is a great resource to help us with devotions. I hope that this will draw us together and be a great new tradition for our family.
